We had a fantastic 5 days in Tahoe - Dana, Brian, Sam, Yariv, Jeff and I. We rented a house in the Donner Lake neighborhood for 5 days, and took full advantage of the outdoor playground that was around us! We got in 3 full days of cross country (skate) skiing, a day of downhill on the snowboard, and two snowshoe adventures on the
terrain up behind the house. And all days were topped off with a good soak in the hot tub...not a bad way to ring in the New Year! The other good thing...my knees held up throughout all the adventures! My knees got a little tired/sore after about 3.5 hours of hard riding on the mountain, but that was okay.At least I can get out there! 2010 has a lot of promise!
From an athletic perspective, I've already signed up for Boggs, an 8-hour mountain bike ride. I've started my training and I'm feeling good. The trails we ride on are BEAUTIFUL! I certainly don't feel like I'm missing out on anything anymore now that I can't trail run! Plus, the thrill of snaking around single track, over obstacles and up steeps, is a rush second to none.
SFOCC practices have started, and we're gearing up for another season. I missed out on the entire first half of the season last year due to my bike accident which occurred a week before the first spring long course season race. So I'm looking forward to jumping in from the beginning and being a part of the race team all season long. I'm hoping to end the season at Catalina again...it was so amazing last year!
Other than that, spending a lot of time over at M2 Revolution, spinning 3+ times a week and still working on the running with the Alter-G. Why, you might say, since I'm not planning to do triathlons this year?? Well, I just WANT to run again. More specifically, I want to trail run. I want to be back out on the Matt Davis Trail for hour runs this summer. So I'm still working on it. I ran Tuesday at 80-85% of my body weigh, and Sunday at 88-90%t, so I'm working my way back. I think I'll be able to hit the trails by the end of February...fingers crossed!
My last days as a free agent...
And, even more exciting, I'm starting a new job this week and I'm really excited about it! It is in a new group at the organization, and surprisingly, my group is under the CTO! Its the ideas group, and a place I am very excited to be!
I've spent the last few weeks on a short-term contract helping the AIDS/LifeCycle increase its ridership for this year...so far so good! They are a great group, and like most non-profits, a very passionate team! And the riders and the community make me wish I wasn't starting a new job later this month, otherwise, I'd take up a week of my vacation and join them on their journey from SF to LA. If you're interested, come to one of their kickoffs - register at www.aidslifecycle.org/kickoff - to find out more information!
Its been a good primer to get me back into "work mode", and it was nice being able to work with a non-profit again, but I'm looking forward to starting my new job, at a great high-tech company! Looking forward to the new challenge. I've thoroughly enjoyed the time off, but looking forward to getting back into the mix!
